The Siamese Cat

The Siamese CatSiamese Cats were first imported from Siam, known as Thailand today, in the late 1800’s. With their dark points and almond shaped blue eyes, the Siamese is one of the most easily recognized breed of cats. The Siamese is a medium to large cat with males weighing 11 to 15 pounds and females weighing 8-12. They have a long tubular body, long legs, a long tail, long neck, and a wedge shaped head with large ears.

The Siamese is one of the most intelligent breed of cats. They can be trained to play fetch, walk on a leash, or even to use the toilet. They will likely figure out how to open drawers or door handles. They’re extremely affectionate cats that love to be not only involved in whatever you may happen to be doing, but also right in the middle of everything you do. Siamese are perfect for families, although, they tend to bond with one person and will expect much more attention from them. They are great with small children and can be alright with other cats and dogs, but it will depend on the individual. Siamese are noted for being very vocal. They’re talkers and most have a very loud voice, similar to a baby crying. All talk, some more than others, but if you decide on a Siamese you should expect this.

The Siamese is a great choice for families. They’re also fine being left alone, but they will get lonely if left alone for too long, as this is a breed that will demand attention. Their short fur requires little grooming. It should also be noted that a Siamese is really not a cat that should be allowed outside. While it’s safer for all cats to be left indoors, the Siamese’s color is very ineffective as camouflage, leaving them vulnerable to predators.
