Signs Of Potential Kidney Problems

The following is a list of signs to watch for that may indicate that your cat may have a  kidney problem.

  • increase or decrease in normal water consumption
  • increase or decrease in normal urine output
  • blood in urine
  • diarrhea
  • vomiting
  • weight loss and anorexia
  • sensitivity or pain in back, near kidney (for example the cat may have a hunched posture)
  • dull haircoat
  • fever
  • excessive shedding
  • joint pain
  • lethargy
  • tongue discoloration
  • mouth ulcers
  • halitosis

  1. A great post there. Not every know that they should look for these signs and don’t associate liver failure, cancer etc with pets.

  3. Mt cat does have kidney problems and is on medication under the local vet. He does not like the renal cat food I buy at the vets. Are you able to advise the type of food he should be eating. Thank you
